Trusting you had a lovely thanksgiving weekend. Much to be thankful for! I am thankful for this wonderful bunch of students and the joy and laughter shared each day.

G.R.A.P.E.S. to help us learn about different ancient civilizations in world history.

  • G = Geography
  • R = Religion
  • A = Achievements
  • P = Politics
  • E = Economics
  • S = Society

Geography: the study of Earth’s physical and cultural features

Examples: environment (living and nonliving things), location (where on the map), climate (weather), landforms (natural features like mountains)

Religion: a set of beliefs which usually includes the worship of one or more divine beings

Examples: Judaism, Buddhism, Hinduism, Ancient Greece, Christianity, Islam

Achievements: a civilization’s inventions and accomplishments that contribute to the advancement of humanity across world history

Examples: Literature, Technology, Mathematics, Inventions, Language, Science and Engineering, Music, Art…

Politics: the process of government and lawmaking in a civilization

Examples: Monarchy (king and queen), Oligarchy (small group of people), Democracy (voting for to be represented), Theocracy (ruled by religious leaders), Tyranny or Dictatorship (uses force to rule)

Economics: the study of the production, selling, and buying of goods and services

Examples: Trade, Services (work or effort), wealth, goods, scarcity (not enough of something)

Society: a group of people living together within a community

Examples: Social hierarchy, social norms, rural (countryside), urban (town or city), division of labour
